Today and thanks to its natural beauty, cultural heritage and size, Cuenca is a perfect place and a widely recognized center for schools of Spanish as a second language.

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

Nexus, Lenguas y Culturas is a private language institute accredited by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education. We offer courses in three different languages: Spanish, English and German.

Our center is located in Cuenca, a calm and quiet Andean city 40 minutes by plane from Quito, the capital of Ecuador, South America. The climate is temperate, as we are found in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains and rivers (hence the name Cuenca, which literally means 'river basin').

Cuenca was an ancient Cañari settlement. When the Incas took over what is now Ecuador, the Inca king Huayna Cápac chose to reside in this area due to its natural beauty; later, it became the Spanish center as beautiful houses, parks, and cathedrals were built. Many are still in existence. Today, Cuenca is the evidence of its majestic past and promising future.

Small towns that are characterized by specialized art and handicrafts (weavings, embroideries, gold and silver jewelry, pottery and earthenware, etc) surround Cuenca. Nearby areas are highlighted by beautiful landscapes, from large forests to fertile valleys. Going up the Andean Mountains one comes across Cajas National Park, an amazing natural reserve.
